In this activity, you will speak to your neighbour.

Your aim is to explain a problem and ask follow-up questions using polite, indirect question forms.

Situation

You live next to someone who has been making a lot of noise late at night. This might be loud music, a television, or guests talking loudly. The problem has happened several times, and it is starting to disturb you.

You decide to speak to your neighbour about it.

What you need to ask about

  • whether they are aware of the noise problem
  • whether they could keep the noise down, especially at night
  • what solution might be possible
  • whether it is likely to happen again

Important

Try to make your questions polite and indirect. Avoid very direct forms like “You’re too loud” or “Stop making noise.” Instead, use softer and more natural language
