After digesting several hundred posts on Reddit, I had ChatGPT create a list of the top 10 complaints about the City.

Read through this list and try to guess what the missing words are.

  1. You can’t find many places to eat after midnight because the __________ ends too early.
  1. There are too many __________ shops selling tartan scarves and Highland cow souvenirs.
  1. Many people think Edinburgh is too __________, especially when it comes to rent and eating out.
  1. Some people think the streets look dirty because there is too much __________.
  1. In August, there are so many __________ that local people avoid the city centre.
  1. Drivers often complain about the __________ and constant roadworks.
  1. Some visitors think local people seem a bit __________ because they don’t chat to strangers very much.
  1. Edinburgh is beautiful, but some people say it doesn’t have much __________, especially at night.
  1. Many local people can’t afford to live in the city because __________ prices are so high.
  1. The biggest complaint is that the city is designed for __________ instead of local people.

In groups, discuss:

Do you agree with this list?

What do you think the biggest problems facing people living in Edinburgh?

What would you do if you were the Lord Provost?*

Note. I know that Edinburgh's Lord Provost is the equivalent of a Mayor - I should say Lord Provost, but I'm afraid, I've probably referred to the Mayor of Edinburgh quite a bit. I apologise and know I should be more respectful of Scottish civic traditions.
